Matte vs Glossy vs Textured: Which Business Card Stock Should You Choose?
Every week someone stands at our counter in Clifton holding two sample cards, asking the same question: matte or glossy? After a decade of printing business cards in Karachi, here’s the honest answer — it depends on your brand, your budget, and how the card will be used.
Matte: The Safe Premium Choice
Matte lamination is our best-seller, and for good reason. It feels smooth and modern, doesn’t show fingerprints, and text stays highly readable under any lighting. If your card carries a lot of information — clinics, consultants, law firms — matte keeps it legible. You can also write on matte cards with a normal pen, which matters more than people expect (think appointment times on the back).
Choose matte if: you want understated premium, your design uses subtle colours, or people need to write on the card.
Glossy: Maximum Colour Impact
Glossy lamination makes colours vivid and photos pop. Restaurants, salons, photographers and event businesses — anyone whose card shows imagery — benefit from gloss. The trade-offs: fingerprints show, glare can hurt readability, and pens smudge on the surface.
Choose glossy if: your card features photos or bold colour, and visual punch matters more than writability.
Textured and Kraft: Character Stocks
Textured stocks (linen, felt) and brown kraft card carry personality before anyone reads a word. Boutiques, cafes, wedding planners and creative studios use them to stand apart from the standard laminated card. They cost slightly more and colour reproduction is softer — by design.
Choose textured/kraft if: your brand is boutique, organic or handcrafted, and you want the card itself to be a talking point.
What About Thickness?
Whatever finish you pick, don’t compromise on stock weight. A thin card undermines an expensive design instantly. We print heavyweight stock as standard — if you’ve received a flimsy card from another printer, bring it in and feel the difference.
